Peshawar, Nov 14 (ANI): The Afghan Consul General to Pakistan, Dr Abdul Khaliq Farahi, has been released by unknown abductors after a period of two years.
Although it is not confirmed yet on what conditions the militants released Farahi on Saturday night, his release might be a result of the ongoing negotiations between the Afghan government and the Taliban, The Nation reported.
Hailing from Farah, a province of Afghanistan, Farahi served as Consul General in Quetta after the end of the Taliban regime.
In April 2002, he was appointed as Consul General in Peshawar, and served on that position for six years. On August 21, he was named as Afghanistan’s Ambassador to Pakistan.
On September 22, 2008, he was abducted by armed persons from Hayatabad area of Peshawar, while his driver Khalid was killed when he showed resistance. (ANI)
