A Q Khan says government using ‘fake’, ‘void’ documents to restrict his movements
December 8th, 2009 - 5:26 pm ICT by ANIRawalpindi, Dec.8 (ANI): Disgraced Pakistani nuclear scientist Dr. Abdul Qadeer Khan has accused the government of using fake documents to restrict his movements.
During a hearing of a case about restrictions on the movement of Dr. Khan in the Lahore High Court (LHC), advocate Ali Zafar, who is representing Dr Khan, claimed that the document the government was relying on was a fake, and that it was only trying to put forth excuses to detain his client.
Zafar said any agreement restricting basic human rights could not have legal bearing and even if the security protocol presented by the government was considered genuine, it had no legal value as it was against the fundamental right to free movement, The Dawn reports.
The hearing has been put off till December 14.
Later, in his statement, Dr. Khan blamed the authorities of using ‘forged and void’ documents to restrict his movements.
It is pertinent to mention here that Dr. Khan had challenged his official protocol, terming it a violation of his fundamental rights, following which the Lahore High Court directed the concerned authorities to remove all restrictions on his movements.
However, under intense international pressure, the government appealed against the court’s directives, which saw the court put a stay order on the verdict. (ANI)
