A Q Khan denies revealing state secrets to foreign media
January 22nd, 2010 - 2:21 pm ICT by ANILahore, Jan.22 (ANI): Controversial Pakistani nuclear scientist Dr. Abdul Qadeer Khan has denied disclosing state secrets to foreign media, saying he only writes columns in newspaper and never discusses such issues in it.
Replying to a petition filed by the federal government seeking restrictions on him giving interviews and movement, Khan denied direct or indirect contact with any foreign journalist.
“I never gave any media statement which would harm the national security,” Khan said in his written reply to the Lahore High Court.
Khan, the father of Pakistan’s nuclear programme, argued that any restrictions on his movement would be against his fundamental rights.
It is worth mentioning here that Dr Khan had written a four-page letter, in which he had described about the illegal transfer of nuke know-how’s to China, North Korea and Iran.
The letter, which was published by The Washington Post, has become a constant source of sensational stories put up by the foreign media, particularly in the western countries.
Besides that, Dr Khan, in a recent interview with a local channel had defended the act of sharing the nuclear technology with friendly countries, which could increase troubles for the Pakistan government. (ANI)
