6,431 Pakistanis languishing in foreign jails
December 22nd, 2009 - 4:59 pm ICT by ANI ( Leave a comment )Lahore, Dec. 22 (ANI): A total of 6,431 Pakistanis are jailed abroad in 72 countries, the Ministry of Overseas Pakistanis has claimed.
The Dawn quoted a ministry document, as saying that there are 1,228 Pakistanis in United Arab Emirates, 1,152 in Saudi Arabia and 712 in India jails. According to the document, the Ministry of Overseas Pakistanis had requested the government to solve the matter and at least allow the innocent people detained with minor allegations to be brought back to the country.
Out of 6,431 Pakistanis, 5,122 are convicted and 1,201 are facing trials.
The convicted and under trial people were involved in murder, theft, drug and human trafficking and in cases related to illegal immigration and terrorism. (ANI)
