52 killed as rains wreak havoc in Pak
July 29th, 2010 - 1:31 pm ICT by ANIPeshawar, July 29(ANI): A fresh spell of monsoon rains has wreaked havoc across Pakistan, as at least 52 people have been killed in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Balochistan and the Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA) in rain-related incidents.
Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) spokesman Adnan Khan confirmed the deaths of eight people across the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.
He said that two people each were killed in Tank, Charsadda and Karak, and one each were killed in Mardan, Mansehra and Dera Ismail Khan.
He also said that the PDMA has declared emergency at all hospitals in the province, and established an emergency cell that was continuously monitoring the flood flow and providing information about the relief activities initiated by the authority.
Matani police station confirmed two deaths in the area when the roof of a house collapsed due to heavy rain.
Most public transport remained off the roads in these areas, where people were seen wading through flooded streets and roads, The Daily Times reports.(ANI)
