40 killed, 70 injured in Pakistan blasts (Second Lead)
December 6th, 2010 - 5:59 pm ICT by IANSIslamabad, Dec 6 (IANS) At least 40 people were killed and more than 70 injured Monday in two successive blasts in Pakistan’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, state-run PTV reported.
The blasts hit an office of local tribal elders in Mohmand agency district. According to security officials, the first blast took place at the gate and the second one hit the office of the assistant political agent.
The tehsildar (revenue administrative officer) of Mohmand agency, Shamsul Islam, talking to Geo TV, confirmed 28 deaths.
The injured are being shifted to the Lady Reading hospital in Peshawar.
The attack came a day after the Inspector General of Frontier Corps said that militants had been flushed out from 85 percent of the tribal area. The tribal region, bordering Afghanistan, has been witnessing intense battles between the Pakistan military and militants.
