37 mn questionable entries in Pakistan electoral roll
March 9th, 2011 - 2:20 pm ICT by IANSIslamabad, March 9 (IANS) A staggering 37 million questionable entries have been detected in Pakistan’s electoral rolls, a media report said Wednesday.
An exercise undertaken by the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) showed there were 37 million questionable entries in the electoral rolls used for the last general elections.
An official told Dawn that NADRA had received data of 81.2 million people, who were eligible to vote, for verification so that it could shift to computerised electoral rolls.
Pakistan has a population of over 160 million.
The verification process revealed that 44.02 million of the entries were valid and it left a void of 37.18 million entries that were considered bogus.
As many as 15.02 million voters had been registered even though there was no identification.
The official said the Election Commission has been informed about the findings.
