3,169 people killed in 2,488 terror incidents in Pakistan in last two years

Islamabad, April 9(ANI): Over 3000 people lost their lives and more than 9000 others were wounded in terror incidents in Pakistan in the last two years, Interior Minister Rehman Malik has said.
Malik informed the Senate that as many as 3,169 people were killed and 9,479 others injured in 2,488 acts of terrorism- including bomb blasts and suicide attacks- in the last two years, The News reports.In a written reply to a question, Malik said that 1,579 people were killed in 2008-2009 in 1,157 acts of terrorism, while another 1,590 died during 2009-2010 in 1,331 terror incidents.Out of the 3,169 people killed in terror attacks, the death toll in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa alone was 1,524, while 605 killings took place in the provinces of Balochistan and Punjab, 134 in Sindh, 125 in Islamabad and 11 in PoK.
In a shocking disclosure, the House was further informed that 222 accused who were arrested on charges of being involved in terrorism were acquitted by the courts, including 172 in KP, 36 in the Punjab and 14 in Islamabad.In response to a question, the minister said that the government had banned four outfits- the Lashkar-e-Islami, Ansarul Islam, Haji Namdar group and Tehrik-e-Taliban Punjab- in 2008.
