25 killed, over 50 hurt in suicide blast at funeral in northwest Pakistan

Peshawar, Mar 9(ANI): At least 25 people were killed and over fifty others wounded in a suicide blast in Pakistan’s northwestern city of Peshawar on Wednesday.

A suicide bomber hit a funeral in Matni area of Adezai near Peshawar, when prayers were being held there, Samaa TV reports.

Rescue teams, law enforcement agencies and the bomb disposal squad have reached the blast site, while an emergency has been declared in hospitals in Peshawar.

DCO Peshawar Siraj Ahmed told the media that police have cordoned off the area and started a search operation in this regard.

The blast was a suicide attack targeting the Aman lashkar (pro-government militia), Geo TV quoted Ahmed, as saying.

Adezai has remained the target of terror activities for a long time now. (ANI)
