Islamabad, Aug 17 (Xinhua) At least 23 people were killed and 25 injured in fresh sectarian clashes in Pakistan’s northwestern tribal region, the state-run PTV reported Sunday. According to the report, the violence in Kurrum tribal agency in North West Frontier Province escalated late Saturday night, as tribesmen set fire to over two dozen empty houses in a village in Lower Kurrum.
The clashes, in which both sides are using heavy weapons, have forced hundreds of families to flee to other areas, the PTV said, adding that the warring tribes had been ignoring the government’s ultimatum to halt fighting in the region.
The clashes that reached their eleventh day Saturday have so far claimed 194 lives, while 286 people have also been injured, the report added.
