February 18th, 2010 - 4:54 pm ICT by IANSIslamabad, Feb 18 (IANS) At least 19 people were killed Thursday in two bombings in northwest Pakistan, media reports said.
Ten people were killed when a deafening explosion tore through a cattle market in Orakzai district while nine people died in a suicide bomb attack in Khyber Agency.
At Orakzai, the blast ripped through the livestock market in the restive tribal region near the Afghan border Thursday, killing at least 10 people and injuring dozens more, DPA reported.
The bombing took place in Darmela when scores of people were at the market.
“It is a remote area and the information is coming very slow,” said an intelligence official. “For the moment, we can confirm 10 deaths and more than 30 injured.”
In the other terror strike, nine people were killed when a suicide bomber struck at Tirah valley of Khyber Agency in Pakistan’s Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA), Xinhua reported.
Geo TV said the blast occurred inside the Akakhel mosque when people started assembling for Zohar prayers. A militant leader was killed and many people were wounded in the blast.
