Jan 30, (THAINDIAN NEWS) Native Americans call the first Full moon of the year as wolf moon. It is generally unusually brighter and bigger. Yesterday many sky gazers waited with baited breath for the full moon to appear. According to the astronomers, the wolf moon is almost 30% brighter as well as 14% wider than regular full moons. This happens because the moon revolves round the Earth in an elliptical orbit and at the time of the wolf moon it comes closer to Earth than usual. According to the Native American folklore, hungry wolves howl in chilly wintry nights glaring at the full moon. Last night, Mars was left to the moon and seemed like a star like reddish object in the sky.
There are many people who believe in the saying that full moons cause some animals to behave strangely. A number of studies have been conducted over the years that try to prove that lunar cycles are related to events like deaths, cardiac attacks, epileptic seizures and many such incidents. However, not all of these claims have scientific evidences. Full moon may have certain effects on Earth for sure. For instance, a full moon causes high tides in the Sea and rivers.
There is also a belief among people that full moon can cause earthquakes and tsunamis in quake prone regions. However, the geologists feel that it takes more than a full moon to trigger an earthquake of serious magnitude. No matter if natural calamities are caused by a full moon or not, it has to be admitted that a full moon is a visual delight, particularly for the star gazers.
