Virgin Galactic Space Ship Two October 12, 2010 (Pen Men at Work): The Virgin Galactic spaceship touched down smoothly on the Californian Mojave Air and Space Port bringing science fiction a step closer to reality.

The Space Ship Two glided down to the earth from a height of 45,000 feet ushering in a new era for eager space tourists who would now have no qualms about their safety within the space craft. VSS Enterprise also known as Virgin Space Craft is now absolutely ready for carrying passengers beyond the pull of the gravitation. The much awaited space tours are now on course and might begin their operations next year.

Pete Siebold, the pilot at the helm of affairs was a delighted man on Sunday as he skillfully detached the space craft from its mother ship and proceeded to glide down to the Mojave Desert in 11 minutes flat. Will Whitehorn, the president of the Virgin Galactic lauded Siebold’s efforts saying that he had dropped from almost the height at which the Concorde flew but without an engine. Siebold has also reportedly said that the flight went much better than he had thought it would. Mike Alsbur was the other man accompanying the pilot on board the VSS Enterprise.

The founder, Sir Richard Branson, acknowledged the tremendous success as a great moment for all which just went on to dispel the oft repeated term of sky being the limit. He concluded saying that the procedure of pushing beyond the initial frontier of space will get underway by next year.

However, there remains more tests to be conducted before the VSS Enterprise can be taken to a much higher altitude by the mother ship, VMS Eve, named for Sir Richard’s mother. The craft will then be powered via its own rockets.

Virgin group hopes to apply for a license before it embarks on its maiden journey carrying tourists on an ‘out of the world’ tour. A single trip for Earthmen is expected to cost £121,000 with the tourists being able to experience the zero gravitation themselves while gazing back at their home planet.
