Kolkata, March 28 (IANS) At a time when most IT majors are going for large scale lay-offs, Ushacomm India, a Rs.30 billion Usha Martin Group company, is all set to go on a recruitment spree to strengthen the manpower of its Kolkata-based Business Support Systems (BSS) and Operations Support System (OSS) services for 2008-09. “We have decided to recruit another 200 skilled people at our Kolkata centre in the next financial year. The additional manpower would be used in the job of product development and product delivery for both BSS and OSS services,” Ushacomm marketing head Tamal Kumar Bardhan told IANS.

Presently there are about 140 people working with Ushacomm at the company’s BSS and OSS units in Kolkata.

He said that the additional headcount would be utilised to achieve the firm’s 25 percent year-on-year growth target in the next fiscal.

With all the three US presidential candidates proposing imposition of strict restrictions on IT body shopping, India undoubtedly stands threatened.

“Since Ushacomm is a product based company, such restrictions on IT body shopping will not impact our business in a big way”, human resource head Debyani Sinha said.

Ushacomm is a leading provider of BSS for fixed, mobile, broadband/IP, cable and satellite markets globally.

With its South African partner, Eppixcomm, Ushacomm caters to over 65 telecom operators worldwide with the clientele ranging from green field operators to major corporations, serving millions of subscribers across Europe, Middle East, Africa, Asia Pacific and North and South America.
