UAE, IAEA working on safe nuclear energy programme
December 3rd, 2010 - 11:46 pm ICT by IANSVienna, Dec 3 (IANS/WAM) The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) said Friday it is working closely with the United Arab Emirates on the establishment of a safe and secure nuclear programme in the country.
A number of technical cooperation programmes are also in the pipeline whereby, the IAEA will help the UAE in developing a national nuclear energy infrastructure for power generation, IAEA Director General Yukiya Amano told WAM.
“The UAE and IAEA are also cooperating to set up a strategic e-learning portal for the Khalifa University of Science, Technology and Research (KUSTAR), considering the vital role nuclear culture and training play in developing the country’s nuclear programme,” he said.
Amano also said that the UAE had pledged a financial support of $10 million for the proposed IAEA-administered international low-enriched uranium fuel bank.
