Tyrannosaurus RexOct 18, (THAINDIAN NEWS) A recent research by the Palaeontologists have shown that the infamous species of the dinosaurs, Tyrannosaurus Rex (T Rex) were cannibals and hunted their own species for food. This species happened to be the largest and the most dreadful of all dinosaurus, that existed about 66 million years ago and were found mostly in North America.

It all happened when Nick Longrich , a researcher from Yale University, discovered a bone of the Tyrannosaurus Rex with huge gouges in them. After a rigorous research, it was found that no other animals were as huge as the Tyrannosaurus Rex. Therefore, there could be a possibility, that the species killed within itself for food. They speculate, from their study evidences, especially the big biting marks from the carnivore’s bones, that they used to fight with each other for food. At the end, the victorious T rex used to attack the weaker one, to devour it. The researchers believe that the teeth marks were those of a big carnivore and 66 million years back, the T rex were the only big carnivore of that size.

The research team took the evidence of more than a few dozens of T rex bones, from different museum fossil collections. He notices that out of all, there were three foot bones and one fore arm bone that had proves to establish the cannibalism of the species up to a significant percentage. Nick Longrich said that the gauge marks in the fore and arms of the sample of the T rex was in V- shape, which was huge in size. Therefore the mark could be pertained to other creatures of the same sub- species. The established the fact further by saying that 65 million years ago, the Tyrannosaurus Rex was not just the dominant carnivore, but the only carnivore.
