Ohio, May 12 (THAINDIAN NEWS) A part of the Universe thought to be packed with a cloud of dense gas and dust has turned out to be a giant hole in space. Scientists say that they have not seen a hole like that before in space. The hole has also provided scientists with some insight about some unknown steps in the star forming process.
Scientists know that stars are born in dense clouds of dust and gas but the process of how the star uses the gas has not been understood fully as yet. This astounding discovery was made by Herschel, which is an infra red space telescope used by the European Space Agency, and this new discovery may shed some light on the unknown step in the star forming process.
Astronomers accidentally located this gaping hole while using the Herschel to study young stars. They realized the clouds continued to look black. They were not supposed to look black, because the infrared telescope is made in such a manner that it can even gaze through such dense cloud materials. So this led the scientists to investigate further.
They then used ground based telescopes and found the same results and this led scientists to conclude that the patch looks black, not because it is an extremely dense packet of clouds but because it is in reality a giant hole.
