New Delhi, Sep 18 (IANS) Tata Teleservices Ltd (TTSL) Thursday launched the premium BlackBerry mobile services that offer customers e-mail, short messaging service (SMS) and internet-based applications. Tata Indicom, the telecom service arm of TTSL, will offer the BlackBerry 8830 World Edition smartphone nationwide.

“We take immense pride in launching the much-awaited BlackBerry solution. The BlackBerry smartphone has become a way of life - an office on the move for corporate executives and business professionals - and its many user-friendly features make it truly desirable,” TTSL managing director Anil Sardana said.

TTSL was earlier denied permission to launch BlackBerry services by the government due to security reasons, although other leading cellular operators like Bharti Airtel, Vodafone-Essar and Reliance Communications have been offering these services for more than a year now.

It was only after Telecom Secretary Siddartha Behura said recently that no permission was required from the government to launch the services, Tata firmed up plans to roll out the service.

The company has launched the CDMA-based Blackberry services, which also offer international roaming on GSM/GPRS networks.

Together with a ‘One World-One Number’ R-UIM (removable user identity module) card powered by Tata Indicom, users can access email and data as well as make and receive domestic and international calls nationwide on the Tata Indicom CDMA network in India and around the world on GSM/GPRS networks.
