Tata Communications to base global headquarters in Singapore
May 11th, 2011 - 5:43 pm ICT by IANSNew Delhi, May 11 (IANS) Tata Communications Wednesday said it would base its international headquarters in Singapore and invest 440 million Singapore dollars towards scaling up its presence in that country over the next four years.
“The planned investments reinforce the organization’s continued focus on innovation and support of both its customers and the Singapore market,” the company said in a statement.
The company also said that it will be increasing its Singapore workforce by 60 percent over the next four years, including the addition of 40 staffers to the company’s global managed services control tower, and additional staff into its next generation services development centre.
The incentive-based International Headquarter (IHQ) status has been awarded to Tata Communications by Singapore’s state investment agency Economic Development Board.
“The official accreditation of international headquarter status by the Singapore government has come on the back of our long-term commitment and continued investment in the region,” said Vinod Kumar, managing director and chief executive officer, Tata Communications.
“We’re here for the long term with strategically planned business investments that will benefit Singapore and its citizens. We want to play a continued role in encouraging global innovation by employing the best local talent available, at all levels of the business,” he added.
The company has invested considerably in Singapore over the last few years, helping not only local job creation but also boosting Singapore as a business destination for global businesses.
The company invested in a $180 million Singapore-based data centre, TCX, in 2010 which is expected to attract lots of companies to host their data in Singapore. The company also selected Singapore to launch its international cloud offering — InstaCompute.
