London, Jan 21 (THAINDIAN NEWS) An investigation to determine the exact cause of the dwindling numbers of honeybees in the United Kingdom has placed the blame right on the doorstep of some new breed of pesticides.

The scientists believe that the pesticides that are used by farmers on their farms and gardens are responsible for the fast vanishing of the bees. They determined that chemicals in the pesticides attack the central systems of the creatures and subsequently kills them.

The study was carried out by the United States Department of Agriculture’s Bee Research Laboratory and it in some way confirmed earlier studies that blamed pesticides for the dwindling numbers of honeybee colonies throughout the world.

The honeybee colony numbers in the United Kingdom have dropped by half since the 1980s.

The studies found that a class of the pesticides called neo-nicotinoids greatly affects the bees’ immune system and makes them highly susceptible to infections.

The findings of the study have caused many people to call for the total ban of the chemicals in the country.

Honeybees play a very crucial role in the planet’s ecological stability. They play crucial role in the pollination of several plants.
