New York, Jan 11 (THAINDIAN NEWS) A top US scientist Steve Murawski says that he believes that the days of overfishing may be over.

If that is correct, then it will be the first time in about a century that that have been achieved. It means that US fishermen can now fish and- though not all species are affected by this - the species will not be endangered.

Murawski said that he believes that the event is important because it marks a milestone in the history of the world’s fishing.

Murawski was the chief scientist at the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s Fisheries Service but retired just last week.

He said that, “As far as we know, we’ve hit the right levels, which are a milestone. And this isn’t just a decadal milestone, this is a century phenomenon.”

Restrictions on fishing have forced many American fishermen to fold up. Most of the fishermen sold their boats and moved on to new ventures because of the restrictions that were placed on fishing.

One such fisherman was not that lucky. He had no other venture and told reporters that the restrictions on fishing ruined his life.
