Dec.07 (THAINDIAN NEWS) In the premiere show of “Monsters Resurrected”, the topic was a carnivore dinosaur species known as Spinosauras. It was twice bigger than T-Rex and had long powerful teeth and a tough exoskeleton. The meaning of its name is spine lizard. This species used to live in parts of North Africa almost 100 million years back. Noted German paleontologist Stromer discovered the remains of this dinosaur in 1910. Unfortunately these remains were destroyed in the Second World War but more remains were found in later years.
Spinosauras had a long vertical spine that looked like a sail. According to the latest information obtained by the researchers, it is the largest sized dinosaur of the world. The estimates indicate that these massive dinosaurs had a average weight of 9 tonnes and a length of 18 meters. This species had a long skull, bigger than any other carnivore dinosaur. So far two Spinosauras species have been found and they are named Spinosaurus marocannus and Spinosaurus aegyptiacus.
However, the researchers have not come across any complete and unharmed skeleton of the dinosaur. In places like Morocco and Egypt, the skull and parts of skeleton of Spinosauras have been discovered at times. The first remains discovered by Stromer was preserved in a German museum for some year. However, it was destroyed owing to the massive bombings that took place during the second world war. From studying the fossil and skeletal parts of the dinosaur, the palaeontologists think that it used to feed on small and large herbivore dinosaurs. It had massive strength and could run immensely fast.
