Vienna, Aug 27, (THAINDIAN NEWS) Researchers have revealed that site where the body of the iceman Oetzi was found might not have been the site of murder of the warrior, as believed, after all. After years of research the team have said that Oetzi might have been killed at much lower ground during a fight and then ceremoniously buried far up on the mountains. The new study was led by Prof. Luca Bondioli and was published in the journal ‘Antiquity’.
The body of Oetzi was discovered back in 1991 in a high mountain pass in the Oetztal Alps. Initially, it was thought to be the remains of a climber but later scientists proved that the body was in fact more than 5000 years old. Further research in 2001 revealed that the death of the iceman was caused due to an injury caused by an arrow around the shoulders. In the new study the researchers studied the location of the weapons and artifacts that were discovered along with the body and concluded that the site where the body was found might have been the site of burial. There were also pollen grains found inside the lungs of the iceman and also in the ice that supported the ‘burial theory’.
Prof. Luca Bondioli said that Oetzi must have been ab important person to receive such a burial and he could have been some sort of chieftain. Some of the other researchers have said that the theory is not ‘bullet proof’ as the arm of Oetzi was found at an awkward angle with the body. They argued that if Oetzi was such an important person then the people should have kept his arm at a more comfortable position at the time of the burial.
