Perseids Meteor Shower Will Light Up The Sky On August 12

meteorThe Perseids Meteor Shower is supposed to light up (hardly, as it will be morning) the sky on the morning of August 12. This batch of meteor shower is considered to be among one of the best to be observed because of the sheer density at which the occurrence takes place. At its peak, the Perseids is said to produce almost up to 60 meteors per hour.

The meteor showers will be flashing across the sky the whole of August but the peak moment for the Perseids is on the morning of August 12. At that time, its velocity will be unparalleled. However, anytime between July 23 to August 22, meteors could be spotted flitting across the sky.

The time for the best viewing for the meteor shower is considered to be in the evening, just before the rise of the moon. The light in the morning would cause hindrance in spotting the fast moving meteors.

The annually occurring Perseids Meteor shower is also known as the “Tears of St. Lawrence.” There is a brief history to that. The meteor shower occurs approximately at about the same date as the day that St. Lawrence was burnt at stake (August 10). Due to this strange occurrence, people had named it thus. Scientifically said, the glorious meteor showers (or the shooting stars) are an outcome of the comet Swift Tuttle.

This year too, the Perseids has been visible for almost a week now but is expected to hold a grand light works show on the 12th of August. Till now, it is considered to be the most predictable of all meteor showers, having being occurring annually every year for almost a span of 2000 years.
