Paper Battery invented by scientists at Stanford University
December 9th, 2009 - 2:21 am ICT by Aishwarya Bhatt ( Leave a comment )Stanford, Dec 8 (THAINDIAN NEWS) In a starling development scientists at the Stanford University have come out with a noble invention and which is making battery out of ordinary paper. It could very well be used as a lightweight battery to power the many electronic devices that are omnipresent in our lives today.
Innovative scientists at the prestigious Stanford University in California have successfully made paper coated with ink made of silver and carbon nanomaterial’s into a “paper battery“. This innovative invention holds loads of promise for new versions and types of lightweight, high-performance energy storage in the battery industry.
This is said to be the same attribute that helps ink stick on to paper allows it to hold onto the single-walled carbon nano tubes and silver nano wire films.
Previously also research was done into the batteries arena, since they are the energy for the million gadgets that we are totally dependent on. Earlier research had established that silicon nanowires could be used to make batteries which are amazingly 10 times as powerful as lithium-ion batteries now used to power many devices such as laptop computers.
“Taking advantage of the mature paper technology, low cost, light and high-performance energy-storage are realized by using conductive paper as current collectors and electrodes,” the scientists said in research published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.
