July 13th, 2009 - 6:41 pm ICT by GD Tell a Friend -

shuttleThe shuttle launch from NASA that was scheduled for today has got delayed due to thunderstorms. It has been reported that the Shuttle Endeavour’s launch has been called off by NASA on Sunday evening after thunder storms interrupted the launch. Only a few minutes were left for the launch when the the team involved in the launch decided that they should halt the shuttle from being sent to the international space station along with seven other astronauts who were going. Since the storms moved in, the launch had to be halted since the conditions required for the launch weren’t favorable and were clearly breaking NASA’s safety rules. Though there has been predictions for more bad weather, it has been reported that NASA will try the launch again on Monday at 6.51 p.m. EDT.

This was the fourth time that the launch has been delayed and according to reports it has been known that NASA has in hand until Tuesday and at best Wednesday to conduct the launch. Since a supply ship of Russia is awaiting its liftoff, The launch if not conducted within Wednesday, will be delayed till the end of this month.

Pete Nickolenko, the launch director has been quoted saying to the Seven astronauts aboard the shuttle, “We got the vehicle ready, and the weather unfortunately did not cooperate with us today. We understand and we’ll be ready.”

Hydrogen fuel leaking was the reason behind the scuttling of the launch two times last month. Attempt to launch also failed on last Saturday when lightning struck the mast of the launch and NASA called for a check of the shuttle’s electric system.
