Cape Canaveral, Oct 27 (THAINDIAN NEWS) Due to weather concerns, the scheduled launch of the Ares I-X flight test on Tuesday was canceled. NASA mission managers made this cancellation decision. The next launch is expected to be made on Wednesday. A four-hour launch window opens at 8 a.m. EDT.
NASA tried for hours to launch the rocket but unfavorable weather conditions which included clouds and winds kept it stuck to its pad.
According to sources, “The launch was delayed for 24 hours because of winds at the launch pad that exceeded the 20-knot limit and concerns about clouds with moisture that could have caused static build-up on the rocket and led to communication issues.”
Launch director Ed Mango and his team came within two minutes and 39 seconds of sending the rocket on its short test flight. But the weather played a perfect spoilsport and their attempts to launch it were thwarted. “We’re not going to be ’go’ today,” Mango announced, thanking everyone for their hard effort.
Weather forecasters have predicted a 60 percent chance of favorable weather on Wednesday for the NASA launch.
The Ares I-X is part of a larger flight test program that will provide data for launch vehicles in the future and give NASA a sound opportunity to test and prove hardware, facilities and other ground operations.
