NASA’s Ares I-X rocket launch postponed yet again to 10:30am EDT

October 28th, 2009 - 8:28 pm ICT by Aishwarya Bhatt Tell a Friend -

NASA Ares I-X rocket Cape Canaveral, Oct 28 (THAINDIAN NEWS) NASA is still not able to launch the Ares I-X rocket on Wednesday morning after its attempts to do so were completely thwarted on Tuesday, due to bad weather.

The attempted launch on Wednesday was scheduled at 9:15 a.m. EDT, but weather again played a spoilsport and it was postponed yet again. There were clouds and small rain shower that disrupted all the preparations for the launch.

According to NASA, the launch is a ‘no go’ and the new launch time is 10:30 a.m. EDT. Everybody is hoping that the weather does not play spoil-sport again for the third time.

Due to weather concerns, the scheduled launch of the Ares I-X flight test on Tuesday was canceled. NASA mission managers made this cancellation decision. NASA tried for hours to launch the rocket but unfavorable weather conditions which included clouds and winds kept it stuck to its pad.

This critical flight test is part of NASA’s mission to someday return astronauts to the moon and the later travel to Mars also.

If the Constellation Program is able to move forward successfully, then Orion capsule atop the Ares rocket will not be ready to take astronauts into space until at least 2015. This would entail a gap of at least five years in which the only way the United States would be able to put humans in orbit would be by negotiating a ride with the Russians astronauts.

The launch comes at a critical time, when NASA is waiting for President Obama to decide appropriate future funding for the agency.
