Mar 22, (THAINDIAN NEWS) The population of Monarch butterflies which are known to migrate to Mexico mountains in order to avoid the chilly winter conditions, has significantly reduced owing to the snow storms that Mexico has been witnessing. The reduction in the number of monarch butterflies is said to be so extensive that the population had lessened to the lowest levels in about a decades.
It is being estimated that the unfavorable weather conditions including heavy rainfall and mudslides that Mexico has been facing might have played a significant role in decreasing the number of monarch butterflies as the heavy rainfall might have killed large number of the creatures. The approximate amount of reduction in the population is thought to be around 50 to 60 per cent which indicated that more than half of the population has been destroyed due to the adverse weather conditions.
While talking about the surprisingly high loss in monarch butterflies population, Chip Taylor, a renowned professor of entomology added that it is being hoped that the loss in the population is not to the extent of 70 to 80 per cent while confirming that this is probably the worst threat the butterfly species has ever come across.
During the months of November to March, thousands of monarch butterflies migrate to Mexico while covering a distance of 2,000 miles in which four generations of butterflies reach completion. Scientists have revealed that the population of monarch butterflies is already quite low in United States and Canada and with the hostile weather conditions in the Mexico further contributing to reduce its population.

Gina Gomez has clearly been left at the bus stop by the “Leave No Child Behind Act.” Given her level of writing skill, I would guess she’s probably in the 4th grade……..

The important information from this article is … a renowned professor of entomology said it is being hoped that the loss in the population is not to the extent of 70 to 80 percent”
I recently watched a PBS documentary on the migration of the monarchs and it was beautiful. We need to pay attention to the more important things in life.

insulting of columnists? If the columnist did not want public exposure and reaction and comment, then the columnist should confine columns to private arenas. Public comment is public comment. But the Monarch crap has a semi religious retreat in the mountainous drug zones of Mexico, so the loss of the habitat may lower tourism and be a boon to all

Get a life Yoop. I guess the Public Broadcasting System is in on the drug war too!
