Sep 9 (THAINDIAN NEWS) Scientists have developed a mind reading machine. They say that they have successfully used electrodes to translate brain waves to words. More work is however required to perfect the project.

The scientists conducted the experiment on an epileptic person who suffers from severe seizures. Doctors say part of the man’s skull was already removed to allow Doctors to treat him of his epilepsy.

Scientists inserted small electrodes into the man’s open skull and recorded brain signals as they made the man repeatedly read words that may be helpful to paralyzed patients. The read words were, cold, hungry, yes, no, hot, thirsty, hello, goodbye, more and less.

After that, scientists tried to match the brain signals with each of the words. The results were fairly good, 76 to 90 percent accuracy when the scientists matched the word, yes and no with the recorded signals. The accuracy sharply declined when the doctors tried to run the test on all ten words simultaneously. The accuracy dropped to 28 percent when all ten words were run simultaneously.

Scientists hope that in the near future, they will be able to develop the product to make it more useful to patients who may not have any other way to communicate.
