triBrighton, July 5, (THAINDIAN NEWS) Recently a fossil remain of an extinct mammal was discovered from the backyards of a Brighton home. A jawbone that could very well be that of a mastodon or a trilophodon was discovered from the backyard of Jim Leyden’s Brighton home when the ground was dug up to construct a swimming pool.

The 2-foot-long wishbone shaped fossil was excavated by Roy Young who works as a conservator at Memphis Pink Palace Museum. It was excavated on Wednesday from a place that lies 30 miles north of Memphis. Roy Young had told to a media source that the well-preserved fossil that has been found is a jawbone that has a large tooth attached to it. Although nothing has been confirmed as of yet, Roy Young said that he believes that the excavated bone was that of a trilophodon. Trilophodon is a close relative of the mastodon. Trilophodons and Masophodons are considered to be prehistoric predecessors of present day elephants and their discovery in Tennessee will no doubt lead to some more research in this area to find out the habitat of the massive mammals. It is for the first time that the bones of a trilophodon have been discovered in the area.

As per reports Jim Leyden was called up by his wife while he was at work. It was she who informed him that the contractors have found a huge bone which she believed to be that of a “dinosaur”. The bone was found after the contractors had dug up 8 feet of soil. It was only after the arrival of Roy Young that tooth was brought out.
