Massive dark object lurking on edge of the solar system
December 8th, 2010 - 9:45 pm ICT by Aishwarya BhattLouisiana, Dec 8 (THAINDIAN NEWS) Space scientists at the University of Louisiana say they have discovered a huge dark object lurking just beyond the solar system.
The scientists say that the object is throwing huge chunks of ice and dust towards the solar system and in particular to the planet. The object which is the size of Jupiter was found near the Oort Cloud system.
The scientists are currently using an infrared telescope called “WISE” to further prove the details of the object. The scientists claim that the WISE which is capable of detecting dark objects will be able to reveal if the initial findings are real or not.
The scientists revealed that 25 percent of the comets in the Oort Cloud system will need a body about the size of Jupiter to nudge them. They believe the discovered object may be just doing that. A statement revealed that they needed “something smaller than a Jovian mass would not be strong enough to perform the task.”
Further details are being gathered about the object which scientists say is as a result of 12 years of gathering data. Data about comets has been collected for a century now.
