Jan 12, (THAINDIAN NEWS) The scientists of Adelaide, Australia have made a new astronomical discovery by measuring the milky way’s magnetic force that exists at its center. The scientists from the University of Adelaide, were headed by Dr. Raymond Protheroe. The team together determined that the mysterious magnetic force is around ‘ten times stronger than the rest of the galaxy’ or rather 10 nanoteslas. 1 tesla of magnetic force resides in a medical MRI machine itself, which means that the machine is stronger than the milky way’s magnetic force.
This discovery is going to prove to be a lot of help to the researchers who predict the architecture of the other galaxies in the same vicinity as the milky way. The researchers are one step closer to solving the numerous riddles and unexplained phenomenon that the milky way provides. Hopefully, the answer to question such as, why the milky way is spiral, or how was it formed etc will now be in the open.
According to Dr Raymond Protheroe, the knowledge of the force of the milky way’s magnetic field will “help us to understand the source of radio and gamma-rays better”. He also said, that the discovery will also be helpful in explaining the formation of stars and ‘”other characteristics of the galaxy”. Scientist have known about this magnetic field for a long time, but measuring it had never been possible. The astronomers had always claimed, that given to the dusty nature of the universe, it had been hard to study its center. As an addition, the astronomers have also found three brand new planets that have been orbiting a sun-like star.
