lunar-haloSavannah, Dec. 02, (THAINDIAN NEWS) For the past few weeks, the night sky has posed ample attractions for stargazers. After the meteor showers of November, Sunday night stargazers in some places of the United States experienced a spectacular view of the lunar halo. It has been reported that people in Savannah saw the lunar halo, a bright yet soft ring of light surrounding the moon on Sunday night.

Sources reporting the incident also stated if someone would observe the lunar halo closely then he would be able to trace the color of rainbow inside the halo. The earlier reports regarding lunar halos stated that halos generally have a soft white light and do not any have specific color. Yet, this lunar halo is said to have the color of the rainbow in it.

The lunar halo that appeared on Sunday has created a great hype and people who had missed this view on Sunday night are searching the internet to check the photographs of this beautiful natural phenomenon. According to the sources, the lunar halo occurs when moonlight gets refracted by the ice crystals present in the upper atmosphere of the earth and the ice crystal’s shape focuses refracted light and makes it appear like a ring surrounding the moon. Many people also consider that the lunar halo has significant effects on the weather of a place and are expecting snowfall or shower in few days. There are different assumptions regarding this natural phenomenon, but conclusive evidence about all of them is not available.
