New York, Nov 16 (THAINDIAN NEWS) The night sky would dazzle for the next couple of days with the Leonid meteor shower. Skies in Colorado are expected to be clear tonight and Tuesday morning. The peak is expected at about 2 a.m. MST Tuesday.
C B Devgun of a Delhi-based NGO, SPACE, said: “A shower of shooting stars is something that happens only a few times. Leonids is one of these and the most prominent one. As a result, the rest of the stars appear as circular arcs.”
Leonid’s meteor showers are apparently prolific meteor shower associated with comet the Tempel-Tuttle. The shower is visible every year around mid-November when the Earth moves through the Leonid meteor stream that comprises solid particles known as meteoroids, ejected by the comet as it passes by the heat source of the Universe – the Sun. In reality all the entire meteor streaks are parallel, but by appearance they appear to originate from a single point in the sky.
For the best viewing experience of the meteor showers, scientists are advising the onlookers to stay away from the city lights. Experts at StarDate magazine on the University of Texas Austin campus have said that if you can see all of the stars of the Little Dipper, you have good dark-adapted vision.
