daeceNew York, Jan 25 (THAINDIAN NEWS) A recent report released by NASA scientists reveals that the last decade experienced the warmest weather ever on Earth. The study also indicates that last year was the second warmest year since 1880. The revelations come to light following a new analysis undertaken by NASA’s Goddard Institute for Space Studies, which took into account the global surface temperature.

The research by the New York based institute also highlights that the weather conditions in 2009 was only slightly cooler than the year 2005, which holds the record of being the warmest year ever. Moreover, the findings also state that since 1880, when the modern temperature measurements were actually taken into account, the average temperature across the world has enhanced by a margin of 1.5 degrees Fahrenheit.

Meanwhile, the year 2008 was recorded to be the coolest year of the decade although the effect of strong La Nina was stated to be the reason for the finding. The strong La Nina is said to have a comprehensive cooling effect on the central and eastern Pacific Ocean. Researcher James Hansen, who headed the study explained that the tropical El Nino-La Nina cycle is responsible for causing a variation in the global temperature every year. The scientist also added that in order to minimize the variability when the average of the temperature over the years is determined, it shows that global warming is posing a major threat. In order to come to the conclusion, the institute took into consideration data from weather station across the world, satellite findings of sea surface temperature as well as data from Antarctica research station.
