Is Spider venom better than viagra?
February 24th, 2011 - 12:28 am ICT by Aishwarya BhattNew York, Feb 23 (THAINDIAN NEWS) Scientists say that a bite from a spider that is found in South America is better than viagra in correcting erectile dysfunction.
The spider is called banana spider probably because it is mostly found in banana plantations. It would have been very ideal to have every man experiencing sexual dysfunction to get the creature in their homes but there is another thing about the creature that would make such an idea a bad one.
The erection is not the only thing that the bite delivers. The creature delivers one of the most painful venoms. Victims often have to deal with the pain for a long time. Aside the pain, victims of the creature’s bite also experiences difficulty in breathing and loss of muscle control.
Doctors extracted the venom with the aim of separating the part that is responsible for causing lasting erection. When doctors injected a toxin called PnTx2-6 - which is found in the venom - on lab rats that are known to have erectile dysfunction, their erection normalized.
That got the scientists interested because they predict that, “This is good because we know that some patients don’t respond to the conventional therapy. This could be an optional treatment for them.”
