Iran to install high-capacity centrifuges in nuclear plants
February 18th, 2010 - 12:58 am ICT by IANSTehran, Feb 17 (IANS) Iran has decided to install advanced centrifuges with greater capacity in order to run its new nuclear power plants.
Iran needs a number of centrifuges to provide fuel for its nuclear power plants and will soon install the new generation centrifuges with a capacity five times greater than the devices it currently uses, President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad told reporters here Tuesday.
Tehran has begun producing 20 percent enriched uranium and will press ahead with the production, he said, adding that the International Atomic Energy Agency inspectors have been informed about the technological advancement of the country, Mehr News Agency reported.
Commenting on western countries’ efforts to impose sanctions on Iran, the president said that the West should open their eyes and change their approach from confrontation to cooperation.
If anyone takes an action against Iran, the Islamic Republic’s response will not be the same as it was in the past, and Iran will definitely retaliate in a way that will make them regret their actions, he added.
on a UN-drafted deal for a nuclear fuel swap, Ahmadinejad said the proposal is still on the table and Iran is ready to exchange its low-enriched fuel for 20 percent enriched nuclear fuel within a just framework.
