New Delhi, March 31 (IANS) While impromptu gigs and insane celebrations were scenes on the streets, the happiness of the twiterrati knew no bounds as they overwhelmed the virtual world with their unified voices of joy after India beat Pakistan to reach the World Cup final.
Mumbai was literally the centre of Twitter’s universe with every odd message hoping for India’s victory against Sri Lanka at Wankhede Stadium.
“India outclasses Pakistan at Mohali. Mumbai, get ready for the biggest roar of the season- Ind v/s Sri Lanka in th 2011 World Cup Finals.”
A user by the name of SaaliKhushi wrote: “The World Cup will lookk great in the hands of the Blue Boys.”
Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, who has doled out time to time comments throughout the match, wrote: “Well played India. Great captaincy and good cricket all round. A very well deserved win.”
Perched in front of it its laptop, the committed twitterati gave time to time updates, giving a descriptive of the surroundings.
“India just beat Pakistan in the Cricket World Cup semi-finals! This is huge! Everyone in the city is screaming & setting off fire crackers,” said a user who went by the name of SimmonsFolk.
“And we are celebrating Diwali in March at Pune after India defeats Pakistan in world cup semi finals,” tweeted abhishek3c RT.
Some wise ones thought of waiting for April 2 to roll out the crackers.
“Don’t burn the city down just yet, you maniacs. Wait for the world cup.”
With Pakistan defeated, the focus very smoothly shifted to Sri Lankans.
“Yes please b careful, don’t bleed for wrong team! 2011 World Cup Finals… Light Blue vs. Dark Blue… So lets bleed light blue,” said one tweet.
TP1TP2TP3_TPn posted a rather notorious one: “Million Dollar Question - Who will win the World Cup ? RAM or RAVAN !!!”
“Lankans, you might have taken fish curry, roti and buddhism from us, you are NOT taking the world cup!” went a rather rude one.
The Bollywood brigade also joined the chorus, actor Rahul Bose was short and sweet. He wrote: Thank you sachin for being who you are.”
Actor Anupam Kher, who was in London, said: “Congratulations!! Even in London we can hear Joyous & excited sounds of VICTORY. It was nice to see Sonia Gandhi minus her composure.:)”
“INDIA WON..n I cried!:)tears of joy!Class act by the indian team,aggression with maturity,lethal combo!Deserve 2 b in the Finals,fab job:),” posted actress Shipa Shetty.
A user from Pakistan, evidently heartbroken, said: “Yes we lost, but we fought till the end. We should’ve won, but doesn’t matter next World Cup hamara hai - InshAllah! #Pakistan Zindabad.”
However high on emotions and patriotism these messages might be, there were a few unmistakable sarcastic ones. “Geez looks like Gary Kirsten may be first South African to win a cricket World Cup,” posted one MandyWiener.
fakingnews posted: “If HR managers think employees would be working tomorrow, they are still mistaken. #PartyTime”
