India added 11.11 mn GSM subscribers in April

New Delhi, May 19 (IANS) India’s GSM subscriber base grew by 1.95 percent in April with the addition of 11.11 million mobile phone users, of which Bharti Airtel alone signed up over 2.41 million customers.

The total number of GSM subscribers in the country crossed 580.67 million as against 569.56 million in March, according to the data released by Cellular Operators Association of India (COAI).

Bharti Airtel now has a market share of 28.35 percent with 164.61 million subscribers.

Vodafone followed with an addition of 2.4 million subscribers, taking its total users to 136.98 million.

Idea Cellular added 2.45 million subscribers to take its total subscribers base to 91.95 million.

State-run telecom operators Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd and Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Ltd added 689,361 and 14,633 customers respectively taking their total user base to 87.14 million and 5.21 million.

New telecom operator Uninor added 1.45 million to have a total of 24.24 million subscribers.
