GSM subscribers’ usage minutes down 1.45 percent
November 9th, 2011 - 11:03 pm ICT by IANSNew Delhi, Nov 9 (IANS) The minutes of usage (MOU) per subscriber for GSM services declined by 1.45 percent during the first quarter ended June 30 at 344 as against 349 during the previous quarter, the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) said Wednesday.
“MOU per subscriber for GSM service declined by 1.45 percent, from 349 in quarter ended March 2011 to 344 in quarter ended June 2011. The outgoing MOUs (167) declined by 1.46 percent and incoming MOUs (177) by 1.44 percent,” TRAI said in its Indian Telecom Services Performance Indicator Report for the quarter ending June 30.
The average revenue per usage for GSM service also declined by 2.55 percent to Rs.98 during the quarter under review as against Rs.100 during the previous quarter.
The quarter saw net additions of 40.11 million wireless subscribers.
According to the TRAI, in August the number of mobile phone subscribers in India rose to 865.7 million, taking the total number of telephone subscribers, including landline users, to 899.78 million.
The report also said that subscription in urban areas grew from 564.08 million at the end of March 2011 to 587.94 million at the end of June 2011, taking the urban teledensity from 157.32 to 163.13.
Rural subscription increased from 282.23 million to 298.05 million, and the rural teledensity increased from 33.79 to 35.60.
