The game, which sold more than three million copies in 10 weeks, also won three more awards, including ‘Xbox Game of the Year’ and the editors’ choice.

Other award winners announced during the ceremony included multiple Bafta award-winning ‘Wii Sports’, which was named the ‘Best Family Game’.

The winners in 18 categories were selected on the basis of the votes cast by about three quarters of a million UK gamers.

Most of the games that were awarded during the event differ from the ones that took home Bafta awards this year.

‘Wii Sports’ and ‘God of War II’ were the only two games to take home prizes at both ceremonies.

Other notable winners included ‘Guitar Hero II’ which was conferred two awards for best soundtrack and girl’s choice.

According to the BBC, Nintendo took home publisher of the year and the innovation award for its Wii console.

The Golden Joystick awards also included prizes for massively multiplayer online games, something overlooked by the Bafta awards.

While ‘The Lord of the Rings Online: Shadows of Angmar’ won best PC game award, ‘World of Warcraft: The Burning Crusade’ was named the best online game.

‘Final Fantasy’ was declared the best mobile game, and ‘Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories’ took home the best handheld game award.

Codemasters was conferred the ‘Developer of the Year’ award, although none of its games won the any award. (ANI)
