Aug 28, (THAINDIAN NEWS) To the disappointment of many, Mars on Aug 27 night sky appeared just as it does on any other day, a small but bright red star. Thanks to a seven year old e-mail that has been doing round over the internet since 2003, there were many people who came out of their houses to have a gaze at the Aug 27 night sky to watch the spectacular view of double moon on sky. However, there was nothing as such on the sky as Mars close to Earth was just another hoax that swept over the internet and captured the attention of many common people.
Reports claim that the hoax of Mars coming close to Earth was spread over the internet via an e-mail that dates back to 2003 and has been doing round the internet since then. The e-mail increases the curiosity of the readers by claiming that Mars would get closer to the Earth like it has never done in the past 60,000 years. It claims that the planet will appear as big as another full moon on the sky. However, this is just another exaggerated hoax email that caught people off-guard. Thousands of people went over the internet to search about the “double moon” or the reality behind the e-mail to find out that it is yet another hoax that has gone viral.
In reality it was on Aug 27, 2003, that Mars actually came close enough to the Earth. It was then just the 34.6 million miles or 5.7 million Kilometers away from Earth and provided scientists with the rare opportunity to click some great images of Mars. The Hubble Space Telescope was used to get some close snap shots of Mars.
