Flight analysis of failed rocket mission begins

Thiruvananthapuram, April 17 (IANS) Space scientists have started reviewing the flight data of Thursday’s failed rocket mission, which was for the first time powered by an Indian-built cryogenic engine.
The scientists Saturday went into a huddle at the Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre (VSSC), a unit of the India Space Research Orgnaisation (ISRO), for a post flight analysis of the failed mission.
A post flight analysis is done after every mission “but with the failure, this is all the more important”, said a VSSC official who did not wish to be identified.
ISRO Chairman K. Radhakrishnan is arriving Saturday night and would take part in the review that will continue on Sunday, the official said.
Radhakrishan, who was at the launch site at Sriharikota, said that the mission did not perform as planned as two Verinier cryogenic engines failed to ignite.
It was at ISRO’s centre at Valiyamala, situated in the city suburbs, that the cryogenic project took shape from the design stage to the assembly stage.
