Valladolid, May 19 (THAINDIAN NEWS) History was created when a fighting bull was cloned in Spain. The cloned bull was born in the town of Fromista, which is located near the central province of Palencia. The cloned calf was born in the wee hours on Tuesday, on a ranch. The researchers, who were working on this project, since a long time, also confirmed the birth.

The cloning team comprised of 17 researchers from the Valencia Veterinary Research Foundation. The team was led by the director of the institute – Vicente Torrent and Rita Cervera. Vicente is an authority in the field of veterinary genetics. He said that the cloned calf was named, as ‘Got’ and he is an exact copy of the fighting bulls that fight in the bullrings with the matadors.

The calf was also showcased to the public on Wednesday. The current weight of the calf is now 53 pounds. Torrent said that his 17-member team is delighted with the birth, and they hope that ‘Got’ also becomes a capable fighter like ‘Vasito’ who is his genetic predecessor. He also added that the whole experiment took them around 36 months.

Animal cloning was started almost 15 years back, with ‘Dolly – the sheep’.
