A national committee will be formed to study the scientific basis of the country’s rich art and cultural heritage, an official said Wednesday.
“I have asked the National Science Centre (NSC) to prepare a proposal for formation of a committee to interpret scientific depth of India’s culture and heritage,” Culture Secretary Jawahar Sircar said after inaugurating a new gallery on ‘Indian Heritage in Science and Technology’ at the NSC.
Sircar said the committee will have members from the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI), NSC, National Council of Science Museum and the Anthropological Survey of India.
“The committee will come out with research papers explaining the scientific basis of our culture and its contribution in development of our society,” Sircar said.
The newly developed gallery depicts the 7,000 years long rich scientific culture of the country.
The gallery starts with a magnificent view of a wheel of the Konark Sun Temple, followed by exhibits on Jantar Mantar, an astronomical observatory.
