Best time to see the Leonid Meteor Shower 2010 is now
November 17th, 2010 - 11:25 pm ICT by Aishwarya BhattNew York, Nov 17 (THAINDIAN NEWS) This year’s Leonids Meteor Shower will reach its climax beginning from midnight and a great spectacle is expected barring any unforeseen circumstances due to the waxing gibbous Moon. About 20 to 30 meteors are expected to be seen every hour and viewers will be expected to focus on the eastern horizon where the constellation of Leo is. The current year has been kind to backward astronomy as the meteor showers are increasing with help from Comet Tempel-Tuttle (55P), which masterminded the perihelion pass 12 years ago.
Meteors are normally made up of dust as well as small quantities of comets and asteroids. In the course of the Earth’s orbit of the sun, it goes through so many big sized clouds of this dust and debris. The meteor experienced in August known as Perseid was very attractive to sky watchers. Every year, the Leonids meteor shower celebration comes off in the middle part of November.
Anyone who wants to have a peep at this year’s Leonids meteor shower can do so with the natural eyes even though a pair of binoculars will make your view more enjoyable.
