Arabic bloggers to compete for best blogging award
June 11th, 2010 - 3:12 pm ICT by IANSDubai, June 11 (IANS/WAM) Arabic language blogs have invaded the internet over the last few years, and now outstanding bloggers from the Gulf region will compete for the ‘Arab Blogging Award’.
There are around 75 million active blogs in various languages worldwide, and an estimated 120,000 blogs are created daily, Ibrahim Said Al Dhahiri, director general of the department of culture and information in Ajman state, said.
A conference was held in Ajman on the occasion of the first Arab bloggers forum which discussed among other things understanding blogging, its objectives and the use of blogs as media outlets for sharing experience, cultures, arts and literature.
“Efforts of thousands of young Arabs have contributed to promoting the status of Arabic language to the seventh rank among those languages that are active online,” Al Dhahri said.
