Aug 12, (THAINDIAN NEWS) Sky-gazers are in a huge treat as the Perseid meteor shower is all set to enthrall them with a spectacular display of celestial elements. The anticipation among the sky-gazers is all the more high time for this annual phenomenon as the sky is expected to be free from clouds and the moon would also be absent which means that the visibility is going to be high. The best time to watch the celestial display is going to start from late Thursday night and the meteor shower is likely to continue till early Friday morning, according to the National Aeronautics and Space Administration.
Dr. Eberhard Mobius, who is the chairman of University of New Hampshire’s physics department has revealed that the sky-gazers would surely have something to look forward to as the Perseid meteor shower is expected to feature as many as 50 meteors every hour. At the same time, Dr. Eberhard Mobius has advised the onlookers to find a dark place to catch the fascinating display of streaks of light as the meteors move really fast and would be visible for just a flick of a second. Meanwhile, NASA has stated that the meteor shower would be taking place on Thursday from sundown when Venus, Saturn, Mars as well as the crescent moon will take positions close to each other until 10 p.m when the celestial display would commence.
The Perseid meteor shower is visible during the month of August every year when Earth makes it way through a series of dusty debris left in the orbit of an ancient comet.
