60 minutes: Endless memory
December 20th, 2010 - 10:01 pm ICT by Aishwarya BhattLos Angeles, Dec 20 (THAINDIAN NEWS) Can you imagine having an endless memory? Well it’s not entirely science fiction any more.
Scientists say there is tiny fraction of people who have endless memory. What is more, these “privileged” few are getting bigger and for the first time, scientists wanted to take special look at them.
Scientists have decided to call people with such memory as people with “superior autobiographical memory.” They are indeed very rare because they are perfectly able to recollect every event that happened to them to the minute detail. Just mention a date and they will reveal to you what happened on that particular day. That is if they witnessed or read about it.
So what makes these people so much special? On 60 minutes recently, Dr. James McGaugh, a professor of neurobiology at the University of California Irvine indicated that such people do not memorize what they know. He said that they are gifted with extraordinary mental gift that makes them able to remember things on the fly.
Dr. McGaugh said that, “They can do with their memories what you and I can do about yesterday…but, they can do it every day.” Such people do not forget anything and they are indeed very real!
